As with each war, the military personnel from both sides
are not looking
for glory, medals or recognition per say, most just want to get back as best
they can, to
the life that they were living before their time in a
war.
Each knows that this will be impossible and they know
that flashbacks
are and will be a part of their lives
until the end.
That said. shame on anyone not giving thanks, glory,
medals
and a lot of recognition to every one of our
serving personnel.
I was "Fortunate enough?" to have been drafted into
Military service at a
time when our government is telling me that
I can go to the V.A. for help
if needed, thank god
because boy do I need to, thanks to a corrupt company.
What about a time when someone was drafted however and
the government
is telling them that they were
drafted at the wrong time?
If it was the wrong time, why were they drafted?
Jessie F. Hughes at age 23 in 1944, had volunteered to
serve, did he shoot anyone?
Was he shot by anyone?
Maybe not, he was a radio operator for the 73rd Field
Artillery
Battalion, 9th Armored Division.
Does he deserve this recognition?
You better believe it and when you read his story you
can see how easy
it could have been for him to have been
number 200 or lower.
My best friend was "Fortunate enough?" to be drafted at
a time
when this government is telling him that he will receive no help.
Was he drafted at a time when he could have been wounded
or dead?
Did he harm or kill anyone?
Does he need any help?
Maybe not yet, will he in his future?
I hope not.
Could he?
You better believe it.

19 More Heavenly Angels Are Watching Over You
This Day
Far too many of our hero's will not be coming home once again.
As they always have in the past, they will now always be,
watching over their people.
At the very least, 19 families will not have much of a
4th of July.
This country has once again lost too many of our top of
the line hero's.

There is no way that I, even as an old veteran, can give
any comforting words
or reason, at a time like this.
However, because I am not able to be there in person,
please except
my humble prayers and know this, I will,
as always, be with the families in spirit.

Navy Chaplain Honored In Vietnam Despite Communist Objections
You must read the
complete article.
"While with Maryknoll,
Fr. Capodanno served in Taiwan and Hong Kong,
and then
requested to be reassigned as a chaplain with the
Marines.
He was sent to Vietnam in 1966, and requested
an extension
to his tour of duty when it was up.
On
Sept. 4, 1967, his unit was in the Que Son Valley near Da
Nang,
and became outnumbered by North Vietnamese forces.
As American soldiers were being gunned down, Fr. Capodanno went about
giving Viaticum and Anointing to
the dying, and medical aid to the wounded.
Shortly after
reassuring a wounded Marine, Fr. Capodanno
went to
another soldier who had called out for help.
Both he and
the solider were shot, and died.
He was awarded the
Medal of Honor in 1969."
“ His citation for
the Medal of Honor says he “left the relative safety of the
company command post and ran through an open area
raked with fire.”
The main reason for
the objection from the communist government
now running that country?
They say, is that the priest was on the
battle field?
The main reason
for the communist party always objecting has been
that
the United States was in the war on the south side.
They
say that it was a civil war, like our civil war
and we
should have butted out.
First, we had help on both sides
of our civil war.
Second, this is important for the
world to always remember,
their north had the help from
Russia, China and a few smaller countries,
long before the United States became involved.
If the communists did
not want the United States involved, they should
have refused the help from all of those
communist countries.
Of course, if they had, there would now be an entirely
different
government running Vietnam today.

US Navy's
Cereal Scandal: Cap'n Crunch Not A Captain?
Well of course I have something to say,
did you really expect anything different?
Charisma Madarang of Foodbeast
You are wrong?
Hopefully your apology will be soon coming to
Captain Horatio Magellan Crunch S.S. Guppy?
If you so chose to come public with information that was
not well
investigated on your part, then you need to now
"Stand Down."
You see, in times such as war or any other
reason for that matter,
if for any reason, the captain
of a ship or boat should,
for an undetermined amount of
time, be incapable to affectively perform
his/her duty, the next in line officers must legally assume that
responsibility.
In the case of, for instance, as with both of my ships in the
United States Navy, it would be the executive
officer
and this person is usually a 3 stripe Commander!

So, Commander Horatio Magellan Crunch you can forever be

Woodworkers
Craft Final Resting Places For Veterans
By Eddie Daniels
Published: May 26, 2013

The boxes are simple. The thought is not!
Some time ago
I, along with hundreds of veterans,
wrote about a WW-2 Veteran buried in a cardboard
box:
PFC Davis JR. Was Buried In A Cardboard Box
Today a group
of hero's (veterans) are doing something about this.
Made of donated wood — birch, maple, or poplar,
the containers
are generally 9 inches in length,
7 inches wide and about 7
inches tall.
"The
Woodcrafters Club of Tampa is a group of people who love
woodworking and all things wood."
"Skill levels
range from complete newbie's to those who craft wood for a
living."
http://www.tampawoodcrafters.org/
“I think what
it does is it gives (the families of indigent veterans)
a
sense of dignity and respect knowing that they have a piece
of craftsmanship
to lay their loved one to rest in more than
anything else,” Cook said.
"Urns have been
sent, free of charge, to locations across the country,
including Maine, Hawaii and Washington state.
Interest has
picked up and wood crafting clubs in Virginia and
The
Villages have inquired, among others, about participating."

welcome to help us continue the most important work."

He's On A Much Better Flight Now
Two Purple Hearts?
This solider should have been able to take whatever
flight
he wished to take whenever he wished, at our
government's expense.
We are starting to once again, losing our hero's faster
now,
than we did during their wars?
Before you read about
the loss of one more person that put
their life on the
line for you, please think about this?
You are minding
your own business having fun growing up,
you are drafted
to go to war?
You go to a place that you know someone is
waiting for you, gun in hand.
This person believes as
much as you do, that their cause is as sound as yours.
You face this person because they have been labeled an
enemy?
You are shot, you shoot back.
After you are
patched up, you go back for more of the same,
because you
wish to protect and serve.
Now remember that many of
these people that are out in a strange
land to protect
and serve you, go through this more than just once.
Now
tell me that you are someone that can put down your
paper,
put this knowledge behind you and go about your
day not feeling
grateful for our service people?
Today,
if you are thankful, please say a prayer, then while
you are out and about touch and thank a
veteran.
You could
be the last person to do this to them.

What a great idea?
Let's all go Dumpster Diving the Navy way.
When trash is collected throughout the community,
it is brought to the recycling center where
volunteers get hands-on experience by sorting it to
determine how much waste can be recycled.
I am thinking that the next step should or could be to send
school children with
teachers and state workers around the
neighborhoods and out onto streets to do a check and a
book report to each house, to write about the recycling
or not recycling of waste as a field trip?

The Navy's Acceptable Losses
When the Navy changed the dress code for sailors in 2008, the
Admirals
all knew that
this 50/50 cotton/nylon
uniform was not flame proof,
however, sailors wanted a
comfortable and washable uniform.
I guess that they forgot to say, " Oh by the way please
make it flame proof. "
In December 2012, while testing the uniform, someone
decided to put a flame to it.
POOF!
Not only does it burn, it melts, so when in contact with
skin, the tester is
the one in trouble, not the officers in
charge of getting the uniforms,
because no one ordered a flame test.
Today I find that the Navy is going to have a temporary
solution issued within nine months,
identical to the existing uniform except it is made of a fire-retardant fabric.
Over the next three years, the US Navy will work to
develop a more comprehensive
fire-resistant
uniform that can be used across different types of
naval assignments.
WHAT? It has already been six years.
On the ships that I was on, everyone on the ship had a place
to go in case of a fire,
not to change uniforms, but to help in some way to fight the fire.
After all one can only run so far on a ship, before a
decision must be made and made fast.

he is 107 year old World War II Army veteran

How Much Does The USS Betelgeuse Weigh?
Welcome to the City of
Fairmont, West Virginia
and thank you for this great question.
Please go to the pages below for much more information
about the "GOOSE" or the USS
Betelgeuse:
http://www.ussbetelgeuse.com/
http://ussbetelgeuse.blogspot.com/
I have absolutely no idea why you would want this
question
answered, however, the Goose weighs NOTHING.
The USS Betelgeuse AK-260 was struck back in 1974
and some say that it was sold for scrap, some say that it
is now at the bottom of the ocean as a reef.
I believe that both stories are true, she was sold as
scrap
and on the way to Texas because of a bad storm the
tug boat
had to cut the tow line and she ran aground,
so they sunk it as a reef.
No matter, she is gone in spite of the many protests from her
former shipmates.
But, back to your question, when in service she was:
Length: 455 feet, Beam: 62 feet,
Depth of Hold: 38 feet,
Draft (loaded): 28 feet
Tonnage:
Gross Tonnage: 7,162
(relative measure of the volume of
the ship's enclosed spaces)
Net Tonnage: 4,555 (relative measure of the volume of
the ship's cargo carrying spaces)
Displacement Tonnage: 15,200 (total weight of the ship
fully loaded)
Deadweight Tonnage: 10,750 (total weight of the ship's
cargo, fuel, water & stores)
Ballast: 3,129 tons
Fuel Oil: 2,833 tonsFresh Water: 300 tons
Hope that this answers your question.

The Tubbataha Mess
Groups
Take US To SC Over Tubbataha Damage
In our navy, the United States of America, once that
last line
is
cast ashore, the captain of that ship is the
president of the ship.
Like the president of the United
States of America, he/she must
sleep at sometime, so that
is why a ship has an Executive Officer.
Just like our
president and vice president, the captain and EO
cannot
be everywhere, all of the time on their little country
so,
a ship also has an officer of the bridge.
This
officer is in charge of everything to do with the brains,
or the bridge of the ship.
Then we have the helmsmen,
lookouts and so on.
At least this is how it went when I
was in the navy,
maybe little changes here and there, but
you get the drift?
The reason for all of the above, is this law suit now
pending by a
multitude of people against the United
States, the navy and
that ship that idiotically ran
aground on the Tubbataha Reef.
I agree that somebody
must pay and pay big time however,
let's look at some facts as I believe them to be.
I remember an earlier
news article stating that the ship was asked
to change course because it was heading into the
reef.
No matter
what happened from that point on,
it was up to that ship to correct course.
I also believe that someone from that ship more or less,
said NO.
The person refusing to change course and any officer on
that ship
in charge at that time, must pay for running
the ship into the reef.
What about that poor peon sailor off duty, eating,
working or sleeping?
This lawsuit, although much needed to end this reckless
steaming by
our ships, must go forward however, it is in need
of a little trimming.

Our Navy Ships Are An Endangered Species
Endangered Mammals have the right to live in their
oceans.
Our navy constantly guarantees us that their ships and
men are well equipped to stop hurting endangered species,
while using their newest types of sonar and equipment
because they can spot them well in advance of any
danger?
On Sunday August 12, 2012 11:20 EDT, one of our newest and
best equipped Navy ships could not spot one the biggest

objects ever built by man, in the most active area

Maine Voices: Critics Of Navy Testing Overlook Experts'
Conclusions
"There is no evidence that sonar testing in the waters
off Maine
would hurt marine mammals. "
I can still remember a young news reported invited to
walk around the
Millstone nuclear site in Waterford,
Connecticut in the early 1970’s,
as he faced the cameras
his statement to the public was,
" Well, I didn't see any radiation while walking
around the units. "
Connecticut Tries To Raise Taxes On MillstoneCall me "Senile of the sea," however I still cannot
understand
what the difference is between training our
young sailors at sea,
compared with training our young
sailors who are in direct contact
with our endangered whale
population?
The deputy chief of staff Joseph W. Murphy is about
ready to retire
as a politician? Talking a lot and saying nothing except, " I
want. "
I do not care how much improvement has been made with
binoculars since
my time in the navy, ships lookouts
cannot see mammals off on the horizon,
nor can they see
them under the sea.
Ocean is ocean so, if the navy must blow things up for
training,
wouldn't it be a more accurate test, doing so
out where the real enemy
would be hiding?
The only enemy close to the shores of Maine are the
Sea Mammals
and Lobsters.
Joseph W. Murphy is correct, in that the navy has been
testing sonar
and blowing up things for over 60 years,
however, sixty years ago,
the testing and blowing things,
up were like shooting a Cap Pistol
compared to today's
fire power and the sonar was as strong
as looking
through binoculars.
In today's navy, blowing up things is
a lot stronger and the new sonar
is drastically interfering with a mammals live saving sonar.
This is how they eat, detect their enemies and stay off shore.

Our Navy Continues To Do It Right
It's Never too late to say "welcome home" and even
though it is
15o years later, the Navy still continues to Honor
it members.
The USS Monitor was a civil war ship that sank in
1862 off of
the coast of North Carolina, killing 16 of its crew
members.
In 2002, when it was partially raised from the
ocean floor,
two of the crew were found in the old
turret
and were recently buried at Arlington, Virginia.
A marker honoring all those who died on the ship,
so many years ago, will be placed at the new gravesite.
Navy Secretary Ray Mabus attended the service, as
well
as some of the men's relatives.
Am proud to say, "We take care of our own in the Navy."

Houston Cops Give Ticket To Hungry Homeless Vet
A
Homeless veteran, a hero, was recently dumpster diving for food
in
Texas, because
this country allowed him to slip through the
cracks,
so to speak, while we all live in our nice warm
homes,
eating at least three square meals a day
thanks to him
and hundreds of thousands of homeless hero’s like him.
So, who is this guy you ask?
He is only a Navy Veteran, but he didn't get
wounded or killed,
so what is he complaining about? He needs to get a
job.
This seems to be the ridiculous attitude of some people in an
often
uncaring country towards one of its military heroes.
The man in this story is James Kelly, who is
44 years old and
he told the Houston Chronicle that he was given a ticket for:
"disturbing the contents of a garbage can in the
downtown business district."
"I was just basically looking for something to eat, I wasn't in a real good mood."
The Houston Police said,
"It is a violation for anyone to remove
any contents of any bin,
bag or other container that has been placed for collection of garbage,
trash
or recyclable materials.
"An officer has
probable cause to issue such a citation when a person is
seen
opening a lid and rummaging through contents of a dumpster or
trash can."
"Kelly, who spent about nine years in Navy, says he
does not plan to stay in Houston,
but has nowhere to live at this time”. "
Is this all nuts or what?

Not Exactly What They Expected For Their Sacrifices
If you are a
veteran heading for the city of Titusville, Florida,
remember
that this seems to be the way that they say,
"WELCOME HOME ~ THANK YOU FOR SERVING"
I just found
out that two years ago the police in Titusville
went on private property to raid a group of our veterans that,
by the
way, it would also seem had permission to set up camp.
I copied the story below word
for word, just in case it disappears
from the only news
station that I could find it on.
Homeless Veterans File Suit Against Titusville
Videos/News/Homeless Veterans File Suit Against Titusville
TITUSVILLE,
Fla.
http://www.titusville.com/
"A group of
homeless veterans is suing the city of Titusville.
The group said
officers raided their camps, then destroyed their property,
including a family member's ashes.
"They came and
took everything," said homeless veteran Ralph Deese.
Deese who, gets
around with an artificial leg, said he remembers
the day
when the city took everything he had left.
"I asked how we
can recover our property, they said, 'You can't.
We've taken
it to the dump,'" said Deese.
A lawsuit filed
Monday says two years ago Titusville officials raided
homeless people's camps without official notice ...
and left
them with no way to get their possessions back.
"I said, 'We're
taking it down today.' They didn't care, said Deese.
Deese said
officers even took his dentures.
The homeless
men have slowly been able to rebuild their makeshift homes.
Some said the things they treasured most, including family
photos
and a family bible, will never be returned.
One man said he
even lost his father's World War II burial flag.
"You can only
kick a dead dog so much," said homeless man Adam Adkins.
Adkins said
officers took all of his tools and equipment for trimming
trees.
"It was my
whole livelihood," said Adkins.
The city
attorney for Titusville said he hasn't seen the lawsuit
and
declined to comment.
"They have
rights. It's not illegal to be homeless," said George Taylor
with National Veterans Homeless Support.
Taylor said if
anyone was having a problem with a homeless camp,
a homeless
organization like his would have taken care of it.
"What's the
price of freedom? "
Our veterans are coming home with major
issues.
"They just want a job," said Taylor.
The camps were
on private property.
The lawsuit said some of the men had
permission from the owners to be there."

A Vietnam Veteran's Parade and a New License Plate
After 40 years, Lake County is talking about having a Vietnam
Veterans Event here in central Florida?
Leaders hope to hold a special recognition event for Vietnam Veterans
in Tavares, Florida on may 18.
Each conflict and war, except for the Cuban crisis, Panama Canal skirmish
and Vietnam conflict, our hero's were welcomed home with joy,
parades and open arms, as well they should have been.
We Vietnam Veterans were welcomed home with open arms too.
But they were throwing tomatoes, potatoes, rocks and fake blood
and the people were screaming vulgar language at
us.
We Bay of Pigs and Panama Canal veterans are still totally ignored.
Guess that is better than ending up in the hospital, as a thank you for serving?
I am a Navy veteran that knows well about the treatment because of
our conflict, which is now called a war?
I Stepped off the train in 1962 in New London Connecticut on my way to the hospital
to visit my sick mother, as I walked through the station to get a cab
to the hospital,
I was hit in the face with fake blood, tomatoes, potatoes and in the
forehead
with what I was told was a rock,
I woke up in the emergency room and could not get up stairs to see my mother
in the ICU until the next day.
Forty years later at 72, I am not so sure that I could walk in
a parade
with Cardiomyopathy?
However, you give me the parade and I'll walk,
I will walk for all of my brothers who can never walk again.

Navy officials said that the USS Wasp, USS Carter Hall

provide landing platforms for Coast Guard, National
Guard
and civilian agency helicopters if they were needed.

I am going to enjoy bringing this back into the light, or

sue Japan for lying about Fukushima radiation
The US Government, Especially the navy, has been sweeping
critical information under the rug for years.
Living far too
close to 5 nuclear power plants has forced me
into
keeping a close eye on their mistakes.
Oops with a
nuclear meltdown does Mother Earth no good at all
and now we are sending, if they do not explode
first,
rockets into space using nuclear power and/or
something even much more dangerous?

US Navy Fined For Damaging Reef
I am so sorry to learn that the people that our government is putting
in charge
of our
War Ships, has not changed much since the beginning of this
country?
The audacity of the person or persons in charge of any ship that is warned of an
upcoming disaster and still plows ahead because
"I am a United states
of America Captain of a big boat and I am in charge"
Note a little sarcasm?
Couldn't help it knowing that it happens
far too many times.
Please do not get me
wrong, I enjoyed my time in the service of my country
and am still proud, also happy to have made it out with all of my body parts.
I was always frustrated at the way this same navy would take a raw land lover
fresh out of college drop them onto the bridge of any warship
and then be shocked if and when, things go wrong?
Back in the 60's, I know
that when someone fresh out of high school, like me,
gets placed, as needed,
not as promised, as a grunt. you learn from others.
You have many people
above you, rightly or wrongly, teaching you to become a sailor.
This "Captain" was warned of the imminent danger to the extremely fragile
Tubbataha Reef and fluffed it off!
So now we are trying to wiggle
out of this mess by blaming Mother Nature?
The USS Guardian, a US Navy Minesweeper, went
aground on Jan. 17, damaging
the Coral Reef, even after they got radio warnings
of the Reef's location.
Park rangers
contacted the USS Guardian, and the ship's captain
told them to "direct their complaints to the US Embassy instead."
"The US Navy then
continued along their route, going aground against
the Tubbataha Reef and getting stuck."
"The US Navy released a statement after the incident, blaming the
slip-up
on bad weather, wind and waves."
The Navy got off with only fines this time,
because the Philippine government,
although they had every right to, chose not
to imprison anyone.
What an embarrassment this man is/was, he
represents the finest Navy
in the world and made us look like we
were/are either stupid, or bullies,
and neither is acceptable, as far as I am
concerned.

Shouldn't We Be Doing This Everywhere?
The US Navy is replacing magnetic sensors in the Thames River
in my hometown Of New London, Connecticut.
And it concerns me that the Navy Sub Base at Groton,
is the only place that this is being done.
The Navy is replacing these magnetic sensors,
that probably few outside
of the Military were even aware of, between New London and
Groton under the Pequot (Thames) river this year.
Why is this important?
Because the Iranians are mass producing
magnetic mines
and placing them throughout the Strait of Hormuz!
My question is this,
" why is this the only river
that we are using to test our
magnetic signatures around our ships?"
" And, shouldn't we be putting these sensors in a lot more
rivers?"

Now remembering Pearl Harbor Hawaii:
Pictures of the Pearl harbor Attack
After the war to end all wars (WW-1) and
before the Second World War,
this country was still a relative new comer on the
"how to" of
world wars.
For some really
stupid reason, only historians will tell,
our government
had almost all of our pacific fleet in one place
making it a good target for any unknown enemy.
Along came "our
friends" the Japanese military and the rest is history.
History - Noun - The study of past events, particularly in human affairs.
Or, as I like to say, " A way to learn from the past for a
better future."
The top photo
looks to the unknowing eye to be a repeat of Pearl Harbor?
That was then
and this is now.
Our country now has much better control over
who
and how many people travel around, under and over,
our
bases, like the
Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia

The USNS Cesar Chavez
I am not really sure if Cesar Chavez would like
being named for a
Dry Cargo/Ammunition ship because he was always for
peace,
but he is absolutely deserving of this recognition.
Chavez came from a poor migrant family who
followed jobs in the fields,
because the family moved so many times, he
went to 38 different schools,
Cesar finally gave up on schools after the eighth
grade.
He then served two years in the Navy during WWII,
later saying it was the, " worst two
years of my life. "
Following his time in the Navy, Cesar became an
advocate for other
migrant farmers like his own family and
then went on to become the
greatest Hispanic or Latino Civil Rights leader in
US history.
Yes, after a lifetime spent in dedication to
making the lives of others better,
he more than earned the honor of having a US Ship
named after him.

Is The Goose To Become
A Super Mass?
It looks like the Star that my ship was named after will
soon
end in an uneventful disaster, in about
100,000 years.
My ship, despite many pleas from her loyal shipmates,
after a long,
and proud history,
was sunk out in the ocean,
they say it was for the benefit
of the fish?
We, her shipmates, wanted it for the benefit of history
and our old salt reunions.

Time To Thank My V.A.
Today was my day to give some of my blood plus other fluids to the
V.A.
I walked in the door about 20 minutes early, as usual and waited my
turn at the window.
This guy walked out of the lab room, cane in tow and right up to my
face?
I am used to most of the people in the building being friendly
however,
this had never happened before.
He said, " Good Morning, Happy New Year. "
I said, " Good Morning and a Happy New Year to you. "
At the door he turned and said, " So what part of the country are
you from? "
I am guessing it was my shirt with the big red fox on it (a Paw~
paus gift)
and my Prayer pouch and long hair that got up his curiosity?
I said I was originally from Connecticut.
He said, " Anywhere around all of that shooting? "
I said, "Just around the
corner, it is a beautiful town".
Have you ever been in a
real loud room that went stone quiet in a second?
As I turned around to
once again face the window, everyone in the room was standing,
heads bowed in prayer for the children, not a dry eye in the room,
including mine.
Now that is togetherness.
Thank you to my Veteran Brothers and Sisters.
While in the Lab giving blood, someone poked his head into the room and
said that
the prayers were for both the Virginia Tech and Newtown
school children.
I agree, AHO.
